Provide Information Related to the TSCA Chemical Risk Evaluation Process
Discuss the Workplace Chemical Protection Program (WCPP)
Provide an overview for the Risk Evaluation for Formaldehyde
The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), as amended by the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act, requires the EPA to evaluate the safety of existing chemicals. This is a three-stage process that involves prioritization, risk evaluation, and risk management. Pursuant to TSCA section 6(b), EPA has the authority to assess unreasonable risks of injury to health, without consideration of the costs of other non-risk factors, including an unreasonable risk to potentially exposed or susceptible subpopulations identified as relevant to the risk evaluation process, under the conditions of use. We will discuss existing chemicals listed on the EPA website that have either undergone or are currently undergoing risk evaluation as part of EPA’s existing chemical process under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). This presentation will provide an overview of the EPA final and proposed rules, the potential impact on occupational exposure assessments with a brief discussion on the Risk Evaluation for Formaldehyde which went final in December 2024. We will also discuss the recently released EPA Compliance Guide for Workplace Chemical Protection Program (WCPP) requirements and the recent Memorandum of Understanding between EPA and OSHA.
