Peter Pekala started his career with OSHA in 2012 as a Compliance Safety and Health Officer in Naperville Area Office. As an inspector for almost ten years, Peter conducted hundreds of general industry enforcement activities including fatal and serious injury accident investigations. In 2021, Peter became a Safety Specialist at the Chicago Regional Office where his current duties include a wide range of technical resource and support for area offices in states such as IL, WI, and OH. Peter specializes in general industry safety with a focus on high-impact cases, accident investigations, compliance assistance, and feasible abatement solutions.
1. Get familiar with the OSHA’s National Emphasis Program – Falls (2023) including OSHA inspection process for fall hazards.
2. Understand a compliance timeline from the Final Rule to Update General Industry Walking-Working Surfaces and Fall Protection Standards (2017).
3. Learn about some of OSHA regulations from 1910 Subpart D – Walking-Working Surfaces related to existing and new fixed ladders and fall protection systems.
You’re invited to join this session presented by a safety specialist from OSHA to learn about the compliance with some of the OSHA regulations under 1910 Subpart D – Walking Working Surfaces related to fall hazards and fixed ladders. It will include introduction to OSHA’s National Emphasis Program for Falls and its inspection process. As a requested topic, this session will cover requirements for existing and new fixed ladders currently equipped with cages and the retrofit efforts to provide ladder safety or personal fall arrest systems prior to the compliance due date in 2036. Presentation will be geared towards the general industry workplaces as it will identify potential hazards and corrective actions related to fall prevention and fixed ladders compliance.
